Benefits of a Los Angeles Contractor Firm that also does Architectural Design

A homeowner considering a remodel or new home construction may wonder if it’s best to have an architectural design company that is separate from, in addition to the general contractor. In fact, some homeowners may not even be aware that they can have all related services under the same company umbrella. There are a variety of benefits for the homeowner having all of the experts of the Design-Build team together within one company.

According to Susan Hines of the Design-Build Institute of America, in an article she wrote for American City and County Magazine: “Using a Design-Build ‘integrated project delivery’ means that the design team (architect, engineers and landscape architect) and the construction team (the general contractor, its employees and sub-contractors), all work together from the initial response to an owner’s inquiry, to the project completion. Such integrated project delivery is an alternative to the architect and then contractor bid method involving two teams who work separately and independently.”

Hines continues: “Numerous time benefits and costs savings for the owner flow from a collaborative relationship within a Design-Build team. Fewer unforeseen problems arise when architect and builder (Design-Build) are on the same team from the beginning. If an electrical outlet is specified in the wrong place or a potential cost override is detected, team members work together early on to provide solutions. When problems are resolved more quickly, projects stay on schedule — saving time and saving money for everyone. Projects delivered on or before deadline are the norm rather than the exception with this integrated Design-Build delivery method.”
